Roland Garros - the most Important Tennis Tournament on Clay

The Roland Garros tennis tournament goes back a long way, as the first edition was held in 1891. It continues to fascinate tennis lovers worldwide. It is one of the 4 most important tennis tournaments in a year, called grand slams.

The French Open 2009, (Roland Garros is also known as the French Open), will bring on some very heated matches, there is no doubt about that. Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and especially Roger Federer will be looking to end Rafael Nadal’s dominance on clay and in men’s competition overall. Roger Federer was unstoppable just one year ago, but now he is the one chasing the world number 1.

In the women’s competition, Ana Ivanovic has to be one of the favorites, although she is currently ranked at just number 7. The Williams sisters, Serena and Venus will also be chasing the title, as well as Dinara Safina and maybe even Maria Sharapova who plans a spectacular comeback.
