This game, also known as Association Football, is the most popular sport in Britain. Each season hundreds of clubs, great and small, set out on a long hard trail that culminates with the Cup Final in May, played before a roaring, singing crowd of 80,000 at Wembley Stadium. A similar scene takes place in every town and city throughout Britain. Apart from the professionals, there are over 1,500,000 men and women who play football as amateurs.
American football
This game is played with an oval-shaped ball by two teams of 11 players who wear special equipment, as American football is more brutal than soccer. However, it is very spectacular and huge crowds support their favorites, cheering, waving silk rosettes and flags, wearing colored scarves and paper hats, throwing crackers and singing. As in soccer, the best players are real national heroes and are paid huge sums of money.
